History & Description.

The Order of the Rose was founded by Emperor Pedro I of Brazil on October 17, 1829, to commemorate his marriage to Princess Amelia of Leuchtenberg.

The Emperor of Brazil was the Grand Master of the Order.

The order was intended to reward military and civilians, subjects of the empire and foreigners for services to the emperor and the state.

Marshal Luis Alves de Lima and Silva with insignia of the Order of the Rose on the order chain. Abolished by the republican government on February 24, 1891, but preserved as a dynastic award of the House of Orleans-Braganza - contenders for the nonexistent throne of Brazil.

The badge of the order is a six-pointed star with balls at the ends, the rays of which are covered with white enamel.  Between the beams there is a semicircle of a garland of three pink enamel roses on green enamel leaves. 

The star of the order is an enlarged order badge superimposed on the shining shtrals visible between the beams of the badge.
